Summary

In-woo never thought about having a child, even after getting married. However,
upon persistent convincing from her husband, who says he wants a child who looks
like In-woo, and pressure from her mother-in-law, she resolves to get pregnant.
Unexpectedly, it is not easy to get pregnant, and the couple spend 8 years receiving
infertility treatments. Finally, after an excessive surgery, In-woo is left barren. After
bemoaning her situation on an infertility forum, she receives a note from a surrogacy
broker. Ignoring her husband Ji-suk’s objections, she decides to have a baby through
a foreign surrogate.
In-woo heads to Bangkok for a surrogacy contract. She meets a surrogate at an
infertility clinic and signs a contract, and, returning to Korea, she continues to
doggedly advise the surrogate. She pays for the surrogate’s rent and lifestyle, even
going so far as to hire a housekeeper. As the baby grows within the surrogate’s belly,
In-woo’s obsession toward both the baby and the surrogate grows alongside it.
Around this time, Thailand’s surrogacy industry comes under global media criticism.
Afraid of getting investigated by the government, brokers, clinics, and surrogates all
hide underground. As all contact is cut off, In-woo becomes anxious and afraid that
her child might be lost, ultimately deciding to fly to Thailand. Will In-woo indeed be
able to find her baby?
